Why use McAfee Safe Wi-Fi?
Smartphones send Wi-Fi signals when connecting to home or office networks. These signals contain information that can be used to track and map your device.
When you're away from a known "Wi-Fi hotspot", we turn your Wi-Fi off to protect your device info. When you're around a known "Wi-Fi hotspot", we turn your Wi-Fi back on. We keep your device info safe by remembering the Wi-Fi hotspot you're connected to.
How does the app work?
The app checks a cell tower ID instead of your GPS location to decide whether your Wi-Fi should be on or off. A Wi-Fi hotspot is marked known if you have connected to it. When you’re away from this "Wi-Fi hotspot", the app turns your Wi-Fi off.
How do I join a new Wi-Fi?
Like you normally do. The app remembers the Wi-Fi hotspot you've connected to and will turn your Wi-Fi on the next time you are around that hotspot. You can view a list of your known hotspots with the last connected date on the home screen.
How to remove a Wi-Fi network from a "Known Wi-Fi Hotspots"?
A Wi-Fi hotspot can be removed from "Known Wi-Fi Hotspots" by clicking on "X" against the hotspot in the settings page.
A Wi-Fi hotspot will be automatically removed from "Known Wi-Fi Hotspots" if you haven't connected to this Wi-Fi hotspot in the last 30 days
Does the app know my private info?
Nope. We don't collect any of your personal info.
How does the app improve battery life?
The app turns your Wi-Fi off when you're away from a known Wi-Fi hotspot. On the move, your device won't look for Wi-Fi hotspots, saving you battery life.
